FOWLER,

John Fowler is supposed to have been the son of the magistrate, Mr. William Fowler, of
New Haven and Milford. He married Mary, daughter of George Hubbard. he probably came to
Guilford about the same time as his father-in-law.
In 1649 he was chosen of the three overseers of highways. From 1661-1665 he was a deputy in the Plantation 6.20.1662. May 26, 1658 at New Haven he was appointed collector of customs and
excise He was one of the first deacons of the Church of Guilford. For services to the Colony he was given by the Colony one hundred acres of land in what is now Durham. Children:
Hon. Abraham Fowler, b 8.29.1652; married Elizabeth Bartlett, daughter of George, 8.29.1677.
John Fowler, b. 1654, m. (1) in 1682 Anne Johnson, daughter William. She died in 1702 m. (2) widow Hannah Norton, who d. 1739.
